About Huawei E1550

The Huawei E1550 is a budget USB 3G modem used by several mobile network operators around the worldwide. It’s the replacement model for the earlier E160 and E156 models which have now been discontinued.

Our testing has shown that the E1550 is maintaining the same excellent standard that it’s predecessors the E156 & E160 offered.

The build quality is solid and the occasional drop shouldn’t cause any damage. Not much has changed in design. It’s fairly bland looking and is of similar size to earlier models.

There are no significant new features in what the E1550 offers compared to earlier budget Huawei models. It does have an updated version of the firmware which should help improve stability and connection drop out.

In our tests the E1550 maintained a continuous connection with out any drop outs. We didn’t notice any difference in upload \ download speeds compared to the E156 and E160

It’s slightly disappointing that the external antenna connector has been lost. But otherwise it seems to be a worthy successor.
