Setting up a 3G modem as a dial up connection using windows 'New Connection Wizard'.
Note: The modem drivers must be installed before using the connection method below!
1) Click - Start > Programs > Accessories > Communications > New Connection Wizard
2) Select 'Connect to the internet' > Next
3) Select 'Set up my connection manually' > Next
4) Select 'Connect using a dial-up modem' > Next
5) Tick the box next to your 3G modem and un-tick all other modems > Next
5) For ISP name enter a friendly name (e.g. Vodafone Mobile Broadband) > Next
6) Enter *99# > Next
7) Select either 'Anyone's Use' or 'My use only' whichever is appropriate > Next
8) Enter the username and password used by the network operator, details can be found here > un-tick 'make this my default internet connection Next
9) For convenience put a tick in the box next to 'Add a shortcut to this connection to my desktop' > Finish
Enter the APN settings for your mobile operator
- Go to Start > Settings > Control Panel
- Select 'phone and modem options'
- Select your dongle in the list of modems (second tab)
- Click on Properties > Advanced
- Enter the following in the text box: +CGDCONT=1,"IP","APN setting goes here"
To start the connection:
1) Double click the new dial up connection shortcut on the desktop
2) Click Dial
