How do I use my unlocked 3G modem with different mobile networks?

The connection manager / dashboard software that comes with a 3G modem usually only works with the mobile network that the modem was bought from.

To connect to different mobile networks a ‘generic’ connection manager is required. Generic connection manager software can be found in the Downloads section, then select the manufacturer of your modem and download the ‘generic’ connection manager.

Install the software. For most users the default options are sufficient.

The connection manager will need a new profile creating that has the appropriate settings for the mobile network that’s going to be used.

The settings required for a new profile are:

Dial-Up number
APN (Access Point Name)
Username
Password

The above settings can usually be found on our website. If the settings you require aren’t on our website, a quick Google search for ‘APN settings mobile network name’ should find them.

The process for creating a new profile is fairly straight forward whichever connection manager you use.

Below are links to setting up a new profile for Huawei, ZTE and Option connection managers. The process will be very similar for other connection managers.

Setting up a new profile for Huawei - Mobile Partner
Setting up a new profile for ZTE - Join Air
Setting up a new Profile for Option - GT Connect

Once the new profile has been created and the appropriate SIM card inserted in the modem a connection can be established
