Connecting a 3G modem to the internet using the built-in OSX network configuration preferences

The instructions below explain how to connect your Huawei 3G modem to a mobile network without using the connection manager \ dashboard software that comes with your dongle.

Note: The instructions below are just a guide and may not accurately represent your system

Instructions:
Connect the dongle to your Mac and make sure the dongle drivers are installed. Use the drivers that come with the dongle (these are installed automatically when you setup the connection manager \ dashboard software).

Download the Huawei Datacard App
Unzip the file, then copy and paste the DataCardApp to your Applications folder.
Double click the application and enter the correct APN information.
Once the APN setting has been entered Click Configure and then Close

Click the Apple logo in the top-left hand corner
Select System Preferences > Network
Select your mobile broadband device e.g. ‘HUAWEI mobile’
Click Configure

'Service Provider:' What ever you want e.g. Vodafone
'Account Name:' Mobile operator username, see here
'Password:' Mobile operator password, see
here
Telephone Number:’  *99#

Modem tab
‘Modem:’ Select your modem e.g. Huawei Mobile Connect
‘Enable error correction and compression in modem:’ put a tick in the box
‘Dialing:’ Tone
‘Sound:’ Off
‘Show modem status in menu bar:’ put a tick in the box

Cklick Apply Now

Open Internet Connect from the Applications menu
Select e.g. HUAWEI Mobile
Click Connect
