If you're having problems unlocking your 3G modem try the following, in order:
Install the modem software
a) The software that comes with the modem must be installed before unlocking.
Close Connection Manager \ Dashboard Software
a) Make sure the connection manager \ dashboard software is fully closed, not just minimised. This includes closing the modem's system tray menu (if applicable) . The system tray menu items are the small icons at the bottom right of the screen next to the time.
a) Many modems have similar names e.g. the K3565 and K3565-z are two completely different modems.
Installed 3G modem software
a) Make sure only the software that comes with the 3G modem you're trying to unlock is installed. Remove all other 3G modem drivers, connection manager and dashboard software.
Check Windows Device Manager
a) Click START > RUN > type DEVMGMT.MSC > OK
b) In the window that opens expand ‘Modems’
c) Check your 3G modem is listed
Try a different USB port
a) Turn off your computer.
b) Disconnect the 3G modem.
c) Turn the computer back on.
d) Reconnect your modem to a different USB port (allow a couple of minutes for the drivers to update).
e) Retry unlocking the modem.
Close Programs
a) Temporarily disable any antivirus, firewall or other security software.
b) Close all open applications e.g. office, web browser etc
SIM from another network
a) Insert a SIM card from another mobile network. The SIM card doesn't have to be a mobile broadband SIM, it can be from a mobile phone.
a) Before running the unlocking software check your internet connection is working. The internet connection can't be through the modem you're trying to unlock!
Reinstall
a) Disconnect the 3G modem
b) Uninstall the software that came with the modem.
c) Reboot
d) Reconnect your 3G modem when the computer has started
e) Allow the connection manager \ dashboard software to install
f) Wait a few minutes while the modem drivers update
g) Try unlocking the modem
